Thillman Benham has studied cello for most of his life. He attended the Baltimore School for the Arts and Ithaca College as a cello performance major. Through the guidance of the wonderful staff at both schools he was immersed in traditional classical study where he developed a love for telling a story and communicating raw emotion through sound and sound alone. However, upon graduation, he slowly came to realize that perhaps his passion did not lie with the performance of the great classic composers.
Everything changed at a small, but wonderful open mic at Teavolve in downtown Baltimore. He agreed to perform alongside somebody he had never met, playing an original song he had never heard, and after experiencing the joys and liberation of having nothing but his ears to guide him, there was no looking back.
Since his days of collaboration at open mics he has cherished working with many singer song writers; helping them to tell the story of their music. He has played Folk, Americana, Rock, Chamber Rock, Pop, Jazz, Soul, Hip Hop, and is ever interested in expanding this list. While he still plays and performs classically (especially the Solo Bach Cello Suites), he loves nothing more than getting a new song to plan parts for at a recording session. He also plays around the East Coast as the cellist for Conor and the Wild Hunt, where he covers bass and lead lines on his 5-string electric cello, and collaborates with many other local musicians.
